An independent appraisal tells you what a piano is really worth before you buy, sell or insure it. Choose a thorough in-person appraisal in Cape Town, or save on travel costs with an online appraisal by video.
In-person appraisal
- Keith inspects the piano in your home
- The most accurate valuation
- Best when buying, selling or insuring a valuable piano
Online appraisal
- You send two short videos and a few photos
- A basic valuation, quicker and cheaper
- Good for a first opinion before you commit
What Keith checks
Every appraisal looks at the piano’s age, the condition of the cabinet, the strings, frame and pin block, the mechanism and keys, and the soundboard. He also considers how easy it is to move and what similar pianos sell for. Read his guide to assessing a piano for more.
How to do an online appraisal
Follow these four steps on your phone. Each video only needs to be 10 to 20 seconds long.
- Watch Keith’s example video. It shows exactly what to film.
- Take a video of the pedals in action. Open the lid so the hammers and strings show. Point the camera at them and press the left pedal for 10 seconds, then the right pedal.
- Take a video of the keys in action. Play a selection of notes across the keyboard, slowly, so Keith can hear the tone and pitch of each one.
- Take photos of:
- the front and both sides of the piano
- any scratches, cracks or other damage, close up
- the piano stool, if there is one, including any damage
Then send them to Keith using the form below. Choose Online, by video as the type of appraisal. Can’t upload them? WhatsApp them to Keith on 083 661 4830.
